Winner claims $3.1mn American-style jackpot in Vietnam

Vietnam’s state-run lottery company Vietlott announced on Wednesday the winner of the American-style Mega 6/45 jackpot worth over VND73 billion (US$3.1 million).

The winner is a Vinaphone mobile network user and the fourth person to have hit the jackpot since the beginning of the year.

The odds of matching all six numbers in the drawing -- 04, 07, 27, 28, 32 and 43 -- were one in 8.1 million. 

The winner will receive about VND65.7 billion ($2.8 million) after paying VND7.3 billion ($311,334) in personal income tax, in accordance with regulations.

During the same prize draw session, the drawing board also announced 55 first prizes worth VND10 million ($426) each, 2,255 second prizes worth VND300,000 ($13) each, and 37,366 third prizes worth VND30,000 ($1.3) each.

Over seven years of business, Vietlott has recorded more than 90 million winning tickets with a total payout of more than VND13 trillion ($554.4 million).

According to regulations, 55 percent of Vietlott’s ticket sales are used as prize payouts.
