According to initial accounts, the woman, identified only as P., was seated on a train traveling from the former Binh Thanh District toward downtown when a man estimated to be about 35 years old sat beside her.
He was wearing a face mask and had a backpack strapped to his chest.
P. stated that the man reached under his backpack and made unwanted physical contact. Despite her verbal objections, she said he continued, prompting her to respond forcefully.
When the train arrived at Ben Thanh Station, the man fled and attempted to hide in the men's restroom.
Security guards at the station, along with local police, intervened quickly.
A representative from Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Co., Ltd. (HURC1), which manages the metro line, confirmed the incident with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. Authorities escorted the man to the Ben Thanh Ward Police Station for questioning.
HURC1 stated that it continues to coordinate closely with local police to ensure order and safety at metro stations.
During the incident, both mobile police and metro security personnel were present at Ben Thanh Station and responded promptly.
