Public toilet ‘vanishes’ overnight, then reappears at corner of Saigon street

Hoang Cong Hiep, CEO of Tien Phong Environmental Technology Joint Stock Company, on Wednesday evening told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the public toilet owned by his company suddenly 'reappeared' after he reported it missing.

Hiep said he had previously filed a report with local police on November 12 after the toilet was mysteriously removed on the night of November 10.

According to Hiep and supporting documents, Tien Phong Company manages and operates the 33-square-meter public toilet kiosk at 2-4-6 Hai Ba Trung Street, near the intersection of Thi Sach Street and Me Linh Square.

The facility placement was approved by authorities to serve residents and tourists completely free of charge.

On October 31, the company was invited to a meeting by the People’s Committee of Saigon Ward, where the committee said it had received a notice from the Land Fund Development Center requesting the company move the public toilet off the site.

Hiep said the company would hold a full board meeting to determine the plan and timing for relocating the facility, and would inform the ward committee accordingly.

Although no official removal order had been issued, company staff reported on the morning of November 11 that the entire kiosk-attached toilet had disappeared without a trace.

Everything was intact at 6:00 pm the previous day.

On Tuesday morning, Hiep was informed that 'someone' had brought back the public toilet and placed it at the corner of Thi Sach Street.

The case is currently under investigation by Saigon Ward’s police and People’s Committee.
