Public Wi-Fi to be installed at key sites in Can Tho, including iconic Cai Rang Floating Market

The municipal People’s Committee on Tuesday said vice-chairman Nguyen Van Khoi had approved the establishment of public Wi-Fi hotspots in key public areas across the southern Vietnamese city, in line with a roadmap to develop 5G networks and move toward piloting 6G services, as proposed by the local Department of Science and Technology.

According to the department, the installation of high-speed public Wi-Fi is meant to help residents and visitors access the Internet conveniently, safely, and stably to obtain information, as well as use online public services and digital applications.

The project is also expected to support the development of digital government, smart urban services, the digital economy and smart tourism, while improving public service quality and enhancing state management efficiency during the digital transformation process.

The proposed locations include Luu Huu Phuoc Park, Ninh Kieu Wharf, Song Hau Park, and Cai Rang Floating Market.

The total investment is estimated at VND1.2 billion (US$45,810), sourced from funding for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

The installation is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

The Department of Science and Technology said the project will initially be piloted at key public sites before being gradually expanded citywide based on implementation results.
