The Southern and Central Highlands Hydrometeorological Center attributed the shift to a southern low-pressure trough gradually moving northward, which is bringing back rainy conditions following a brief dry spell.
On Monday, weather conditions in Ho Chi Minh City and the broader southern region remained mostly sunny, with hot temperatures, especially in the southeastern part during the morning.
However, scattered showers and thunderstorms could hit the region from late afternoons into the evenings, with moderate to heavy rain likely and an upward trend in both rainfall coverage and volume compared to recent days.
The southern region is anticipated to receive intense rainfall in the coming days.
This pattern is influenced by a combination of weather systems interacting simultaneously, the regional weather center explained, adding that the southwest monsoon is expected to resume around Wednesday.
Over the next three days, southern Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City will possibly see increasing cloud cover, less persistent sunshine, and a decreasing trend in heat intensity.
Besides, afternoon and evening showers with thunderstorms are likely, with localized moderate to heavy rainfall.
From Wednesday onward, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected during midday, afternoon, and evening hours.
Some areas may experience very heavy rainfall.
Residents are advised to remain alert for severe weather phenomena during thunderstorms, including strong wind gusts, lightning, whirlwinds, and hail.
