Rain to ease across southern Vietnam for 3 days before heavy showers return

Rainfall is expected to ease across southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, for three days starting Monday before heavy rain returns from September 17 as a tropical depression dissipates and the intertropical convergence zone shifts northward.

The Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center said weather conditions in southern Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City are expected to become more stable during the first three days of the week, with rainfall easing slightly but heavy showers still possible.

The improvement was attributed to the intertropical convergence zone, which has brought widespread rain and is shifting northward and weakening.

The southern branch of the subtropical high-pressure system is also expected to expand westward and is likely to become the dominant influence on weather in southern Vietnam.

As a result, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease from September 14 to 16.

Cloud cover will decrease during the day, with more sunshine.

High temperatures are forecast to range from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 34 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall will also become more limited in the afternoon and evening, with fewer areas experiencing widespread heavy rain.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with heavy rain possible in some areas.

Rain is still likely along the western coast, in northern Tay Ninh Province, Dong Nai City and western Lam Dong Province. Thunderstorms may bring lightning, strong winds and possible whirlwinds.

From around September 17, heavy rain combined with high tides could cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and canals.
