At Vietnam’s heritage site Phong Nha, red river carries centuries of legends

The Son River, the famous waterway flowing through the Phong Nha-Ke Bang heritage area in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam has taken on a striking reddish-brown hue from heavy sediment these days, while local people have passed down several centuries-old legends explaining how the river came to bear its name.
