Heavy rains had submerged large parts of Dien Dien Commune, about 10km from the famed beach destination Nha Trang, turning it into one of the worst-hit areas during recent historic flooding.
Although floodwaters began receding in parts of the coastal province, the commune remained engulfed, with homes, livestock, and belongings swept under water.
Calls for help echoed across the area as rescue boats moved between submerged houses.

After transporting more than 10 stranded residents to safety, Captain Hoang Ngoc Y and Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Le of Waterway Police Team No. 1 received urgent news that a 20-day-old newborn and her family were trapped in Dong Ba Hamlet. Officers immediately turned their speedboat toward the site.
Navigating through dense, debris-filled currents, the team entered sections where floodwaters reached nearly two meters at around 4:30 pm.
Relatives of the newborn shouted directions as rescuers approached the partially submerged home.
Captain Y carefully wrapped the infant in a blanket to keep her warm before wading back across the floodwaters and placing her onto the rescue boat.
The baby’s mother, 26-year-old Nguyen Kieu My, said the family had endured two days with only dry instant noodles and believed the flooding would not rise so quickly.
The entire family was later evacuated, along with dozens of other residents who had been stranded across the commune.
By 6:00 pm on Friday, the infant and her family arrived safely at a secure shelter.
Rescue operations continued throughout the area as police, soldiers, and volunteers worked to reach isolated households, while some residents used makeshift boats to escape rising waters.
