Resident hands over 85kg python to rangers in central Vietnam

A resident in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam has handed over an 85-kilogram python to forest protection officers.

Le Nhan Duc, head of the forest protection unit in Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue Province, said on Tuesday that the unit had received the five-meter python from H.V.D., a local resident.

The animal belongs to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.

D. explained that several years ago, floodwaters swept the python into his garden.

Since then, his family has been caring for the reptile.

However, they grew concerned as the python rapidly increased in size and weight.

D. said that the python had been caged for a long time and had become accustomed to being fed by humans, suggesting it should not be released into the wild immediately.

The forest protection unit in Hue City is collaborating with a specialized unit responsible for caring for wild animals to ensure the well-being of the snake.
