The flight, numbered VJ3522, was operated by Vietnam’s budget carrier Vietjet Air using an Airbus A321 from Vladivostok.

It officially restored the Russia–Phu Quoc direct route to serve Russian travelers during the 2025–26 winter holiday season.

The passengers were part of a full-package charter tour program covering airfares, accommodation, sightseeing, and local services, organized by Anex Vietnam Trading and Tourism Co., Ltd.

Phu Quoc authorities held a formal reception to welcome the guests, reaffirming the island’s reputation as a safe, hospitable, and attractive destination for international tourists.

Following this inaugural flight, Phu Quoc is expected to receive additional charter services from 14 Russian cities and other member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, operated by Russia’s Azur Air and Vietjet Air.

The routes are projected to operate 75–80 flights per month, carrying more than 10,000 international passengers.

“Phu Quoc is entering its most beautiful season, with crystal-clear waters and ideal weather. Russian tourists love the island,” said Phan Dang Anh, deputy general director of Anex Vietnam.

“We are working with local businesses to prepare hotel rooms and tour packages.

"Each month, we plan to bring around 10,000 Russian visitors to Phu Quoc for leisure and relaxation.”

The reopening of direct flights from Russia, along with other international routes, marks a key milestone in Phu Quoc’s tourism development strategy.

The move also carries strategic importance as Phu Quoc prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2027.

According to the An Giang Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 52,000 Russian visitors in the first nine months of 2025, and local travel firms expect arrivals to surge toward the year end.

Tran Minh Khoa, chairman of the Phu Quoc People’s Committee, said the island is delighted to have continuously welcomed international visitors from Belarus, South Korea, China, Russia, and beyond.

He added that local tourism businesses are being encouraged to improve service quality, while authorities are proposing extending visa stays for international travelers to Phu Quoc up to 180 days to allow them to fully enjoy their time on the ‘pearl island.’
