Russian tourists send thank-you letter to police after stolen phones recovered in Vietnam’s Nha Trang

Lieutenant Colonel Dao Xuan Truong, head of Nha Trang Ward Police, said on Saturday that the unit had received a thank-you letter from Russian citizen Albrandt Kristina, born in 1983, and her husband, Andrey Sushchenko.

According to the letter, on May 8, the couple left their belongings on the beach while swimming near an area opposite No. 2 Le Loi Street in Nha Trang Ward.

The stolen items included a white iPhone 12 and a Redmi Note 14 smartphone.

Police said the suspect, identified as Le Hung Cuong, born in 1980 and residing in Phu Thanh residential area, Tay Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, took advantage of the tourists’ unattended moment to steal the phones before selling them for cash.

On May 12, while patrolling near Thanh Nien Park, officers from Nha Trang Ward Police caught Cuong in the act of committing another theft.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to multiple thefts, including the theft of the two phones belonging to the Russian couple.

Based on collected evidence and investigation materials, police recovered both stolen phones and returned them to the victims.

In the letter, Kristina expressed her appreciation for the prompt and dedicated support provided by the police officers.

She wrote that thanks to the quick actions and dedication of the police officers, their stolen phones were safely returned to them in the shortest possible time.

The police's efforts not only solved the problem but also left the Russian tourists with a very positive impression of the Vietnamese police force and the Vietnamese people, she added.

According to Nha Trang Ward Police, Le Hung Cuong had no stable occupation and frequently wandered around the Tran Phu beach area looking for opportunities to steal property from residents and tourists.

Authorities said the case demonstrated the timely response of local police in maintaining security and order in tourist areas, helping create a safe and friendly image for international visitors traveling to Khanh Hoa.
