Ho Chi Minh City’s river tunnel will be closed to traffic for a fixed period on eight days in January and February for the construction of additional infrastructure.
The Thu Thiem Tunnel, which connects District 1 and District 2 under the Saigon River, is scheduled close between 11:00 pm and 3:00 am from January 26 to 29 and from February 2 to 5.
The closure is aimed at ensuring traffic safety during the construction of girder No. 19, part of the project to build four main routes in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2.
The closure will be applied to all vehicles during the above periods.
The tunnel, which is 1.49 kilometers long, 33 meters wide, and nine meters high, is currently open to motorcycles from 4:00 am to 11:00 pm.
Meanwhile, four-wheel vehicles are allowed to travel in the structure around the clock.
The alternative routes from District 1 to District 2 are recommended below.
Route 1: Vo Van Kiet => Calmette Bridge => Hoang Dieu => Nguyen Tat Thanh => Khanh Hoi Bridge => Ton Duc Thang => Nguyen Huu Canh => Thu Thiem Bridge => Mai Chi Tho.
Route 2: Vo Van Kiet => Ky Con => Tran Hung Dao => Ham Nghi => Ho Tung Mau => Ton Duc Thang => Nguyen Huu Canh => Thu Thiem Bridge => Mai Chi Tho.
People traveling from District 2 to District 1 are advised to take the following detours:
Route 1: Mai Chi Tho =>Thu Thiem Bridge => Nguyen Huu Canh => Ton Duc Thang => Ham Nghi => Nam Ky Khoi Nghia => Vo Van Kiet.
Route 2 Mai Chi Tho => Thu Thiem Bridge => Nguyen Huu Canh => Ton Duc Thang => Ham Nghi => Le Lai => Nguyen Thai Hoc => Tran Hung Dao => Tran Dinh Xu => Vo Van Kiet.
