Japanese Consul General recalls The Saigon Times’ value since the 1990s

“I first began reading The Saigon Times during my earlier posting at the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, from 1994 to 1998. Those were exciting times, with Vietnam opening up under the Doi Moi reforms and many Japanese companies were establishing their presence in southern Vietnam. As an officer responsible for economic affairs at the Consulate-General in those days, I found the up-to-date information The Saigon Times provided on Vietnam’s economy truly invaluable — and I am sure the Japanese business community here shared that sentiment.

HCMC - The Saigon Times Group is set to organize the Sustainable Development 2025 event on August 28, under the theme “A New Era for Green Growth.”
This event is part of the Saigon Times Group’s annual green economy forum series. It is expected to gather business leaders, experts, and policymakers to explore the challenges and opportunities of advancing green growth and sustainable development in a rapidly evolving landscape. That landscape is shaped by a national awakening, coordinated efforts by the Government and local authorities to tackle environmental pollution, and increasing pressure from international trade tensions. The Sustainable Development 2025 event will also shed light on how businesses are responding to the imperative of rapid yet sustainable growth – striving for high quality while balancing economic advancement with cultural, social, and environmental considerations. Key topics include emerging investment and business opportunities in the green growth era, and practical strategies for achieving sustainable, eco-friendly development. This year, the 2025 Sustainable Development event themed “A New Era for Green Growth” will feature a special highlight – the “Green Star Merit Ceremony”. The merit ceremony honors businesses in manufacturing, construction-real estate, and services-commerce that have actively contributed to the green transition and sustainable development. Honorees are those creating environmentally friendly products and services that promote consumer health and well-being. In line with the Saigon Times’ commitment to sustainability, the 2025 Sustainable Development event will be organized with minimal environmental impact. This initiative aligns with the broader societal effort to cut emissions and supports Vietnam’s pledge made by the prime minister at COP26 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
