HCMC - The HCMC Department of Education and Training has issued a decision suspending the operations of the cash-strapped American International School Vietnam (AISVN) in Nha Be District for 12 months, starting July 1.

The department said in a statement that AISVN does not meet necessary conditions to provide educational services. In specifics, the school has insufficient financial resources to sustain and develop its educational programs and lacks management staff to carry out and organize its operations. Reportedly, 134 parents have transferred their children from AISVN to other schools since April this year. The department has worked with multiple schools in the city to assess their capacity, discuss support policies for AISVN students, and facilitate the smooth transfer of these students. On May 28, the HCMC Department of Education and Training met with investors and the school’s leadership, requesting reports and evidence demonstrating compliance with educational operational conditions outlined in the 2019 Law on Education by June 15. However, the department has yet to receive the report as required.
