Japanese Consul General recalls The Saigon Times’ value since the 1990s

“I first began reading The Saigon Times during my earlier posting at the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, from 1994 to 1998. Those were exciting times, with Vietnam opening up under the Doi Moi reforms and many Japanese companies were establishing their presence in southern Vietnam. As an officer responsible for economic affairs at the Consulate-General in those days, I found the up-to-date information The Saigon Times provided on Vietnam’s economy truly invaluable — and I am sure the Japanese business community here shared that sentiment.

HCMC - The highly anticipated ESG Forum 2025, themed “Dual Transformation toward Eco-Industrial Parks,” will take place tomorrow, June 25, in District 1, aiming to advance sustainable business practices and accelerate impactful ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) adoption in Vietnam.
Held by The Saigon Times in collaboration with Green Transition Consulting & Training, the forum is expected to draw around 150 participants, including business representatives, policymakers, sustainability experts, and foreign business chambers. As Vietnam moves toward more sustainable and digitally integrated growth, the forum will explore how industrial parks can implement both green and digital transformation to meet global ESG standards and strengthen their role in international supply chains. The main panel discussion will focus on key policy and strategic questions: What incentives and regulations support the development of eco-industrial parks (EIPs)? How can manufacturers leverage the EIP model to drive green transformation? And what are the measurable economic benefits of this transition? Three afternoon workshops will explore key dimensions of dual transformation:
  • Workshop 1: Blue-green infrastructure toward EIP: Focusing on nature-based solutions, green buildings, sustainable architecture, and eco-efficiency;
  • Workshop 2: Efficiency and decarbonization toward EIP: Highlighting key topics such as GHG inventory, water and energy efficiency, CBAM adaptation, and carbon credits;
  • Workshop 3: Logistics for pathway EIP: Exploring the role of sustainable logistics and supply chains in realizing the eco-industrial park model.
The forum aims to serve as a launchpad for stakeholders to commit, connect, and co-create a new generation of industrial zones – greener, more efficient, and future-ready. In line with its sustainability mission, ESG Forum 2025 will assess and minimize its carbon footprint through a range of mitigation measures. Participants will receive a carbon report detailing the event’s emissions, reflecting the organizers’ commitment to transparency and accountability. The Saigon Times and its partners will also be recognized with net-zero carbon certificates for their offsetting efforts, reinforcing the forum’s role in promoting sustainable event practices in Vietnam.
