HCMC - The Haiphong People’s Committee, in coordination with businesses from both Vietnam and the U.S., has signed cooperation agreements to study the Nam Do Son port project.

The exchange of cooperation agreements for the research and development of Nam Do Son port took place during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to the U.S., according to the Vietnam News Agency. The participating parties include the Haiphong People’s Committee, KinhBac City Development Holding Corporation (KBC), Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (SGT), Energy Capital Vietnam (ECV), and the Ports of Los Angeles (POLA) in the U.S. These entities will conduct a comprehensive study on the development of the port with the aim of transforming it into a transshipment hub for both domestic and international cargo in Vietnam. According to the Haiphong City's development plan through 2040, Nam Do Son Port will be expanded into a gateway port, playing a key role in international transit and serving national defense and security requirements. It will possess the capability to accommodate container ships with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEUs, cargo vessels with a capacity of up to 200,000 tons, liquid bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 150,000 tons, and passenger ships with a capacity of up to 225,000 gross tonnage (GT).
