HCMC – Can Tho City aims to add around 300 new businesses each year through 2030 as the city seeks to expand its private sector and raise its contribution to 78-80% of gross regional domestic product (GRDP).

HCMC – Retail sales of goods in HCMC exceeded VND50 trillion per month in early 2025, according to data from the HCMC Statistics Office.
In the first two months of the year, total retail sales of goods reached over VND100.3 trillion, increasing by nearly 16% compared to the same period last year. The city’s total revenue from retail sales of goods and services in January and February was put at VND212.7 trillion, up by 15.9% year-on-year. However, February saw a slight fall of 1% against January as consumer demand eased following the Lunar New Year shopping season. Sales in key categories, including food, beverages, and household appliances, dropped from January levels as spending normalized. E-commerce growth and promotional campaigns helped sustain demand. Retail sales accounted for 46% of total consumer spending, reaching over VND100.3 trillion, a 15% year-on-year increase. Food and beverage sales rose by 13.1% to VND32.3 trillion, while household appliances saw a 32.6% surge, reaching VND27.2 trillion. Revenue from hospitality and food services totaled VND27 trillion, a 34.8% year-on-year increase. The travel sector generated an estimated VND5.5 trillion, up 13.2%. HCMC welcomed 1.04 million international tourists in the first two months of 2025, an increase of 15.7% from the previous year. Domestic tourism recorded 5.58 million visitors, an 8.3% rise. The service sector generated VND79.7 trillion in total revenue, up by 11.8% year-on-year, while real estate services contributed VND46.86 trillion, an increase of nearly 12%.
