HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 case count today jumped to 900,585 after the Ministry of Health confirmed 4,411 daily new cases, with seven of them imported and 4,404 locally infected in 47 cities and provinces, up by 812 cases against yesterday.

HCMC remained the country's largest coronavirus hotbed with 1,140 new cases, up by 357 cases from a day earlier. In the current fourth wave of infections, the city has detected a total of 428,013 cases. Binh Duong Province came second with 521 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 499, Daklak with 254, Bac Lieu with 242, An Giang with 221, Tay Ninh with 202, Kien Giang with 150 and Tien Giang with 127. Other provinces had fewer than 100 cases each. Since the fourth wave began in late April, the country has reported 895,793 domestic infections, with over 809,400 of them having recovered. The ministry today reported 54 new Covid deaths, with 32 of them in HCMC, eight in Binh Duong, four in Long An, three in Bac Lieu, two in Dong Nai and one in each of Tay Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Kien Giang, An Giang and Soc Trang. The country’s Covid death toll has now soared to 21,856. On October 27, over one million doses of Covid vaccines were administered nationwide, taking the total to 75.9 million. In the central province of Quang Nam, 159 students have been found infected with Covid through rapid tests. The Nam Tra My District Healthcare Center today announced the test results of students at several schools in Tra Mai Commune. The 159 cases were detected at the Nam Tra My Ethnic Boarding High School. The Tra Mai Secondary School also found eight students to be positive with the coronavirus after they took PCR tests, the local media reported. The health authority in the province said that the infection cluster in Nam Tra My District was causing concern as sources of infection remained unknown. The district has locked down three areas with 48 households in Tra Mai Commune and banned the gatherings of 30 persons or above to slow the spread of Covid. In fourth wave of Covid, Quang Nam has reported 1,051 cases, including 92 cases detected today. In the northern province of Nam Dinh, due to the spread of the virus, the province's Nam Dinh City has allowed students to stay at home and attend online classes instead. Among 24 positive cases detected in the province on October 26, the city accounted for nine. The city is racing against time to conduct contact tracing. The province confirmed 28 locally-infected cases today, raising its total to 228.
