This marks a milestone for both Vietnam and Samsung’s global smartphone manufacturing network.
With this promotion, Giang became not only the first Vietnamese national to hold the vice-president position at a Samsung manufacturing entity in Vietnam, but also the first host-country employee worldwide to hold the role at a Samsung Electronics smartphone production facility.
In a press release on Monday, Samsung Vietnam noted that Giang has achieved numerous milestones in streamlining production processes, strengthening quality standards, and improving operational efficiency.
The company highlighted his professional expertise, leadership skills, and strategic vision as key factors behind the appointment.
In his new role, Giang will oversee operations at Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) in Bac Ninh Province and SEVT in Thai Nguyen Province, both located in northern Vietnam.
Giang joined SEV in 2010 and later served as director of the smartphone manufacturing department from 2013 to 2014.
From 2015 until his latest appointment, he held the positions of director of the components manufacturing department and director of the product coloring technology department at SEVT.
Na Ki Hong, general director of Samsung Vietnam, said he was delighted that, for the first time, a local employee had been appointed vice-president at one of Samsung’s smartphone manufacturing entities worldwide.
“This is clear evidence of the importance and capabilities of the local workforce at our manufacturing operations in Vietnam,” he said.
Na added that over the past 30 years and with the support of the Vietnamese government and people, Samsung Vietnam has grown to become the country’s largest foreign direct investment enterprise.
“We will continue striving to contribute to Vietnam’s economic development and talent cultivation efforts,” he said.
Samsung Electronics is South Korea’s largest private conglomerate, operating primarily in electronics, finance, heavy industry, and technology.
In Vietnam, the company began with a television manufacturing plant in Ho Chi Minh City in 1995 and has since become the country’s largest foreign investor, with total registered capital exceeding US$23 billion as of the end of 2024.
Samsung currently operates six manufacturing plants in Vietnam, located in Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, and Ho Chi Minh City, along with one research and development center and one sales entity.
According to its third-quarter financial report, the four largest Samsung factories in Vietnam recorded a combined revenue of nearly $45.9 billion and a total profit of about $3 billion in the first nine months of the year, both showing slight year-on-year increases.
