Samsung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd (SEV), a subsidiary of South Korean electronics giant Samsung, has officially inaugurated a rooftop solar installation at its factory in Yen Phong Industrial Park in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam.

The solar array entered operation on July 31 after three months of work led by SEV in partnership with Ho Chi Minh City–based CME Solar Investment JSC (CME Solar), a domestic company specializing in rooftop solar solutions.

With a capacity of 2.38 MWp, the photovoltaic system is projected to generate approximately 2.59 million kWh of clean electricity annually, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions by about 2,460 metric tons per year, based on the official emissions factor certified by Vietnamese authorities.

CME Solar CEO Chung Dieu Tuan confirmed that the company managed the entire project—from technical design and securing legal approvals to construction, testing, and commissioning—while strictly adhering to SEV's quality and safety protocols.

He emphasized that this green energy initiative transcends mere cost savings, reflecting the shared values of SEV and CME Solar in sustainability, innovation, and responsible corporate citizenship.

With a seasoned operations and maintenance team overseeing nearly 100 rooftop solar systems across Vietnam and supported by a proprietary 24/7 AI-powered monitoring platform, CME Solar ensures long-term operational efficiency and real-time fault detection for Samsung's rooftop solar portfolio in Vietnam, Tuan affirmed.

He described the installation as Samsung's first concrete step toward supporting Vietnam's net-zero by 2050 goal and a foundational milestone in Samsung Group's own green energy transition strategy, underscoring its role as the largest foreign direct investor in Vietnam

Kim Iee Soo, general director of SEV, emphasized that the project holds both economic significance and symbolic importance, serving as a testament to Samsung's deepening commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility in Vietnam.

He characterized the rooftop solar system at SEV—Samsung's inaugural mobile phone manufacturing site in the country—as a pioneering model for renewable energy adoption that can inspire future green transformations across Samsung's facilities in Vietnam and beyond.

The rooftop solar project also arrives amid new national policy initiatives.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has circulated a draft decision proposing support for households to install self-consumed rooftop solar systems with storage batteries.

Under the current proposal, eligible households could receive up to VND2.5 million (US$95.5) in investment subsidies, along with access to preferential loan arrangements and technical guidance.
