Sunday saw many Vietnamese hopefuls have their gold medals stolen by the unfair referees and officiating task of the 27th SEA Games Myanmar 2013.
By the end of Sunday, Vietnam remained at the fourth place on the medal tally with 36 golds, 32 silvers, and 41 bronzes. Thailand remained atop with 45 gold medals.
Swimmer talent Lam Quang Nhat, 16, saved an unfruitful day for Vietnam with his gold medal at the men's freestyle 1500m event.
Below are some highlights compiled by the event’s organizers.
Athletics
At Wunna Theikdi Stadium, Myanmar’s Saw Mar Lar Nwe opened five days of athletics competition with a gold medal in the women’s 20km walk, finishing in 1 hour 35 minutes and 3 seconds, a little more than 2 minutes ahead of silver medalist Thi Thanh Phuc Nguyen (VIE).
She walked home in 1:37.08. Kay Khine Myo Tun gave Myanmar its second medal in the race, finishing in 1:40.15 for the bronze.
In the men’s draw, Hendro Hendro (INA) walked home in 1:29.41 for the gold medal. Xuan Vinh Vo (VIE) got the silver in 1:33.30 and Myo Min Thita (MYA) took the bronze in 1:36.18.
In women’s shot put, Singapore’s Guirong Zhang won gold with a heave of 14.99m, beating silver medalist and teammate Xianhui Du by just 7cm. Sawitri Thongchao (THA) won bronze with a put of 14.82m.
In men’s discus, Muhammad Ifran Shamshuddin (MAS) won gold with a throw of 53.16m. Narong Benjaroon (THA) got the silver hurling the discus 52.45m and Hermanto Hermanto (INA) won bronze on 51.56m.
The men’s long jump gold went to Henry Dagmil (PHI) with a leap of 7.80m. Supanra Sukhasvasti Na Ayudhaya (THA)got silver with a 7.71m and Van Lam Pham (VIE) won bronze on 7.53m.
In men’s hammer throw, Tantipong Phetchaiya (THA) won gold with a games’ record 62.23m toss. Arniel Ferrera (PHI) got the silver on 61.18m and Jackie Wong Siew Cheer won bronze on 59.75m.
Sukanya Chomchuendee (THA) vaulted a games’ record 4.21m to win gold in women’s pole vault. Thi Phuong Le took the silver clearing 4.10m and Riezel Buenaventura (PHI) made 3.80m for bronze.
In the women’s 400m, Treewadee Yongphan (THA) ran 53.106 seconds to the gold medal, Thi Lan Quach (VIE) got silver in 53.374 and Thi Oanh Nguyen (VIE) took the bronze in 53.709.
In the men’s 400m, Archand Christian Bagsit (PHI), rounding the track in 47.219, took gold, edging teammate Edgardo Jr Alejan (PHI) (47.448) into silver. Edy Ariansyah (INA) got bronze in 47.778.
In women’s heptathlon 100m hurdles, Wassana Winatho (THA) set the pace through the first event, finishing in 13.746. Narcisa Atienza (PHI) came second in 14.813 and Sunisa Khotseemueang (THA) had the third- best time, 14.830.
In the heptathlon high jump, Wassana Winatho’s (THA) leap of 1.79m put her on top, ahead of Narcisa Atienza (PHI) on 1.76m and Sunisa Khotseemueang (THA) on 1.64m.
In the heptathlon shot put, Atienza (PHI) put the shot 12.57m, Wassana (THA) 12.28m and Sunisa (THA) 11.82.
In the day’s final heptathlon discipline, Wissana ran the 200m in 25.046 seconds, ahead of Sunisa in 25.853 and Atienza in 26.588.
Bodybuilding
In men’s 80kg bodybuilding at the MCC Yangon, Myanmar’s Min Zaw Oo grabbed the gold, Khuntal Phuangphet (THA) the silver and Komara Dhita Jana (INA) the bronze.
At 90kg, Ngai Hoeng Wong (MAS) took the gold, Aung Swe Naing (MYA) silver and Panupong Prateep (THA) the bronze.
Cycling
In cycling at Mount Pleasant, Dinah Chan Siew Kheng (SIN) took the gold in the women’s individual 30km time trial in 46 minutes, 30.125 seconds. Nontasin Chanpeng (THA) grabbed silver in 47:03.765 and Fuchianty Yanthi (INA) won bronze in 47:13.765.
In the men’s 50km individual time trial, Mark John Lexer P Galedo (PHI) averaged 44.765 kph to finish in a gold medal-winning 1:07:00.999. Robin Manullang (INA) got the gold in 1:07:38.294. Ronald Oranza made it a two- medal race for Philippines, wining the bronze in 1:07:50.798.
Shooting
At North Dagon Shooting Range in Yangon, Hoang Xuan Vinh (VIE) got the men’s 10m air pistol gold with a 199.7 total. Eddy Chew (MAS) got the silver on 197.0 and Lim Swee Hon (SIN) took bronze on 176.6.
In the team competition, Vietnam grabbed the gold, Singapore the silver and Malaysia bronze.
Karatedo
At Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium (A), Thailand won the karatedo gold in the men’s team kumite. Malaysia got the silver and Vietnam and Indonesia won the bronzes.
In women’s team kumite, Malaysia beat Indonesia 2-0 to win the gold. Indonesia got silver and bronzes went to Myanmar and Vietnam.
Chess
Late Saturday, Win Zaw Htun (MYA) won gold, Timsri Worathep (THA) silver and Halay Taufik (INA) bronze in the men’s chess traditional individual blitz.
Swimming
In swimming at Wunna Theikdi Swimming Pool, Sidiq Triady Fauzi (INA) won gold in the men’s 50m freestyle in 23.12 seconds. Russell Ong Kaiyi (SIN) managed silver in 23.24 and Gavin Alexander Lewis (THA) got the bronze in23.41.
In men’s 200m breaststroke, Ketin Nuttapong (THA) got gold in 2:13.32, Matjiur Radomyos (THA) stroked to silver in 2:17.77 and Yap See Tuan got bronze in 2:18.57.
In the women’s 200m freestyle, Jungrajang Nattaanan (THA) touched in 2:01.03 for gold, Quah Ting Wen (SIN) got silver in 2:01.74 and Lynette Lim Shu En swam 2:02.62 for bronze.
In the women’s 200m breast, Christina LOH Yen Ling (MAS) got gold in 2:32.56, Salubluek Chavunnooch (THA) took the silver 1.65 seconds later and Samantha Louisa Teo Ginn (SIN) won bronze in 2:34.27.
In the men’s 1500m freestyle, Lam Quang Nhat (VIE) swam 15:39.44 for gold, Kevin Yeap Soon Choy (MAS) got silver in 15:45.89 and Welson Sim Wee Sheng took the bronze in 15:57.98.
In the women’s 4x100m medley, Singapore took gold in 4:13.02, Thailand silver in 4:15.52 and Malaysia bronze in 4:17.77.
Petanque
In petanque at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, Than Zaw Oo (MYA) took the men’s single gold, Sonthung Wattanachai got silver and Ouk Samnang (CAM)/Syed Ali Syed Akmal Fikri (MAS) the bronzes.
In women’s doubles, gold went Thailand, silver to Cambodia and bronzes to Malaysia and Vietnam.
Golf
In golf at Royal Myanmar Golf Club, Thailand leads the team competition after the first round on 210. Indonesia sits in second a stroke back at 211 and Myanmar holds down third spot on 212.
In individual play, Daniel Boonma (THA) and Gavin Kyle green (MAS) are first at four-under par 68, followed by William Sjaichudin (INA) at 60. Four players are another stroke back at 70 and eight players card 1-under 71s.
Basketball
In basketball on Sunday at Zeyarthiri Indoor Stadium (A), the Philippine women topped Indonesia 55-45 (15-15, 17-12, 10-11, 13-7) in the first women’s game. In the second match, Thailand outlasted Malaysia 72-69 (20-9, 18-21, 26-18, 8-21).
In the men’s draw, Indonesia overwhelmed Cambodia 84-48. Indonesia was only out-scored by a point 18-17 in the second quarter and won the other three quarters handily. In the day’s highlight match-up Malaysia jumped to an early 6-2 lead, but Philippines soon asserted themselves, ending the first quarter leading 21-15, extending it to 43-34 in the second, 68-49 in the third and wrapping up the match, and assuring themselves the gold medal, 84-56.
Volleyball
In volleyball at Zeyarthiri Indoor Stadium (B), Vietnam beat Indonesia 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23) in women’s play. On the men’s side, Thailand rolled past Cambodia 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-14) and Myanmar blanked Malaysia 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15).
Hockey
At Hockey Field, Yangon, Malaysia to a 5-0 lead over Vietnam into the dressing room after the first half, returned to the field charged up and left after the second half 13-0 winners.
But in the match between Singapore and Myanmar, Singapore held onto a 1-0 lead in the first half and kept Myanmar scoreless in the second to emerge 1-0 winners.
Sepak Takraw
In men’s sepak takraw regu at Wunna Theikdi Stadium Malaysia beat Cambodia 2-0, Thailand blanked Vietnam 2-0, Malaysia won 2-0 over Myanmar and Thailand topped Laos 2-0.
In women’s action, Thailand was taken to 2-1 by Vietnam, Myanmar beat Malaysia 2-0, Laos blanked Malaysia 2-0 and Thailand won 2-0 over Myanmar.
Football
In men’s football at Zeyarthiri Stadium, Singapore and Malaysia played to a 1-1-1 draw and Vietnam slammed Laos 5-0.
In women’s football at Mandalarthiri Stadium in Mandalay, Vietnam beat Myanmar 1-0.
Futsal
In men’s futsal at Futsal Stadium, Thailand beat Vietnam 4-0 and Myanmar and Indonesia played to a scoreless draw.
