Groups of senior learners warmed up diligently by the pool under the guidance of professional coaches, preparing for another session in the 10-day program, on Thursday.
Many participants, aged roughly 50 to nearly 80, said they had become more confident in the water after just a few lessons, thanks to the patient and attentive instruction they received.
Seventy-eight-year-old Dao Bich Huong from Vinh Hoi Ward said determination was what pushed her to register.
“Today is my sixth lesson, and compared to the first day, I’ve improved so much,” she shared proudly.
Nguyen Thi Nghia, 72, from Binh Loi Trung Ward, said that her whole family encouraged her to learn to swim.
“I feel much braver now. I’m practicing exactly as the coaches instruct,” she said with a smile.
For Do Thu Ha, a 63-year-old resident of Phu Lam Ward, six sessions have already brought her to an above-average level.
“The coaches explain everything clearly, and learners in the class support each other," she said.
“I’m very happy to be part of this free program."
Similarly, 54-year-old Mai Phuong Trang from Xom Chieu Ward said that just a few lessons were enough to boost her confidence significantly in the water.

Nguyen Kieu Oanh, deputy director of the center, said that this is the third free swimming course of 2025, and it has completed six out of 10 sessions.
This cohort includes more senior beginners than previous courses, she said.
Though older learners may absorb techniques more slowly and many have never been in a pool before, their determination stands out.

After six lessons, four to five participants are already able to swim 15-20 meters.
Oanh shared that the class environment is always cheerful and energetic.
The seniors view the sessions as a refreshing form of relaxation.
“For those who still lack confidence, our coaches stay right beside them, correcting each movement,” she emphasized.
