Seven people, including baby, seriously injured in southern Vietnam ambulance crash

The ambulance hit a median strip and caught fire

Seven people, including a newborn baby, were injured after an ambulance barreled into a median strip and caught fire in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Phuoc on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred on Provincial Highway No. 471 in Tan Phu Town, Dong Phu District at around 10:00 pm, the Binh Phuoc Department of Police confirmed on Thursday morning.

The ambulance was speeding through a rainstorm before losing control and crashing into the median strip. 

It then caught fire while seven occupants, including a newborn baby, were trapped inside.

Local residents immediately rushed to the scene to help the victims.

All seven occupants were injured in the accident and brought to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Firefighters and police officers were dispatched to the site to extinguish the fire but the ambulance could not be saved.

A probe has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
