Seventh-grade students go missing after swim in northern Vietnam river

Two seventh-grade students in Phu Tho Province, located in northern Vietnam, were swept away by the current while swimming with friends in the local Da River on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 2:00 pm that day, a group of 11 seventh-grade students from Dao Xa Middle School, including two girls and nine boys, visited the Da River in Thanh Thuy District for a swim during time off from school.

According to information provided by the students, the nine boys swam in the river.

During the swim, three of them became quite exhausted, with one of the exhausted boys being pulled back to shore.

The other two were swept away.

Functional forces and rescuers rushed to the scene to search for them after being informed of the situation.

Divers combed the river bed for the victims until 9:00 pm the same day but none of them had been found, local authorities said.
