Flight CZ8155, carrying more than 170 passengers from Shenzhen, landed at Da Nang International Airport on Thursday evening to mark the route’s reopening.
Passengers were greeted with special art performances and souvenirs from the Da Nang tourism sector.
Truong Thi Hong Hanh, director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said China has long been a key market for the city, consistently ranking second in terms of international arrivals.
Before the pandemic, Da Nang had five regular routes and 29 charter flights from Chinese cities.
“The return of China Southern not only strengthens tourism and trade connectivity but also raises expectations for a sharp rise in Chinese visitors to Da Nang in the near future,” Hanh said.
She added that the city will continue to promote its image, organize tourism campaigns, and work to restore more direct flights from major Chinese cities.
According to Mairehaba Yisilayili, China Southern Airlines’ representative in Vietnam, the carrier plans to operate six round-trip flights a week, with services scheduled on the 2nd, 6th, 10th, 14th, 18th, and 22nd of each month.
Shenzhen is one of China’s leading industrial and technology hubs.
The resumption of the route comes at a time when Da Nang is pushing forward with major projects, including a free trade zone and an international financial center.
Together with booming tourism, these efforts are expected to deepen economic and travel ties between the two cities.
Da Nang welcomed about five million international visitors in the first eight months of 2025, up 23.4 percent year on year.
The strong recovery of traditional markets, including China, has been a key driver of this growth.
