
Duy Quang, eldest son of renowned composer Pham Duy on December 19 passed away at the Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in California, America after two months fighting with liver cancer.
According to Duy Minh, Quang’s younger brother, the singer weighed only 20kg before his death.
Born in 1950, Quang has been well-known among local and global aficionados as the best singer of songs by Pham Duy, including “Em Hien Nhu Masouer,” “Tha Nhu Giot Mua,” “Dua Em Tim Dong Hoa Vang” and “Ngay Xua Hoang Thi.”
Quang started his singing career at the age of 17. In 1950, together with singers Duy Hung, Duy Minh, Duy Cuong and Thai Hien, Quang formed a band named “The Dreamers” and the group was a big name before 1975. He has so far sung nearly 600 songs and recorded around 400 works in Vietnam and abroad.
In 2004, Quang made a return to Vietnam after years living in the US and decided live in Ho Chi Minh City since 2007.
