S.Korean director arrested over smuggling charges in Da Nang

A 58-year-old South Korean director of a company in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam has been detained for allegedly offering nearly 18,000 smuggled clothing sets in the local market, the provincial police agency confirmed on Friday.

The arrested director of Takson Hue Company Limited was identified as Kang Myung Gyu, residing in the province’s Huong Thuy Town.

The police agency also banned Kang’s interpreter Vu Thi Nguyet and his subordinate Nguyen Ngoc Hiep from leaving their residences for their alleged involvement in the case.

According to findings from the police, Takson Hue opened a customs declaration to import fabrics and clothing materials into Vietnam for contract manufacturing. The finished products would be shipped back to their overseas partner.

However, Kang colluded with Nguyet and Hiep to put the said amount of clothing sets up for sale in the Vietnamese market without making any customs declaration.

Police officers already confiscated these clothing sets and are working out total damages in this smuggling case.
