S.Korean man sentenced to death for killing father in Ho Chi Minh City

The incident occurred after his father traveled from South Korea to Ho Chi Minh City to advise Lim on his behavior toơard his wife.

According to the indictment, Lim and his Vietnamese wife, M., had two children and lived together in an apartment in Tan Phu Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

On March 10, 2024, a dispute arose between Lim and his wife, during which he assaulted her and killed the family dog. 

Consequently, M. took their two children and left, calling her father-in-law, Lim J., to inform him of the situation.

Lim J. later asked his daughter-in-law to book an air ticket for him to travel to Vietnam to advise his son.

On March 13, 2024, Lim J. arrived in Vietnam and stayed with his son at the apartment. 

The two men drank beer and Lim J. advised his son on how to treat his wife and children. Afterward, they both went to sleep in separate rooms.

Lim Young Kwon, unable to sleep, went to the living room sofa to use his phone and walked around the room. 

At this point, he suddenly became enraged, believing his father had traveled from South Korea to scold him and side with his daughter-in-law.

He then formed the intention to take his father's life.

Acting on this impulse, Lim Young Kwon went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and entered the room where his father was sleeping. 

He then sat on his father and repeatedly stabbed him with the knife and scissors until Lim J. died.

After killing his father, Lim Young Kwon left the bedroom, used the knife to cut his own hands and wrists, and then threw the knife and scissors over the balcony.

He later left the apartment, wandered around, and then lay down to sleep on a patch of grass within the apartment complex.

The next morning, security guards at the apartment complex discovered Lim Young Kwon lying on the grass with numerous bloodstains on his body.

They reported the incident to local police and took him for emergency medical treatment.

The security guards and M. checked the apartment, found the door unlocked, and discovered Lim J. deceased.
