At around 10:45 am on Monday, local authorities, with assistance from residents, captured the two-kilogram crocodile.
The reptile was brought ashore and taken away for handling in accordance with regulations.
A resident told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that a few days earlier, they and several others had seen the small crocodile in the canal.
Sometimes, the crocodile crawled onto a patch of land within the canal.
“I don’t know where the crocodile came from. Some people took photos and videos [of the animal] with their phones,” the resident said.
On Sunday, Tuoi Tre also saw the crocodile briefly surfacing near the edge of the canal, close to the intersection of Nuoc Den Canal Street and Ap Chien Luoc Street in Binh Hung Hoa Ward.
After a short time, the animal disappeared from view.
