Son Tra Peninsula offers cool summer retreat in central Vietnam

As early summer brings hot and humid weather to Da Nang, many visitors are seeking relief from the heat in cooler, greener surroundings.

Among them, Son Tra Peninsula has emerged as a popular escape from the heat, attracting large numbers of locals and tourists.

Located about 10km northeast of Da Nang City center, Son Tra is known for its vast primary forest ecosystem and year-round cool climate.

In recent days, from early afternoon, many locals and visitors have begun heading up the peninsula to enjoy its fresh and refreshing air.

Along the winding roads, visitors can clearly feel the temperature drop as they travel higher, with the heat gradually cooled by sea breezes and the lush greenery of the mountains.

At Ban Co Peak, one of the highest points in Da Nang, many tourists are delighted to stand in the open air as clouds drift across the mountainside.

From this vantage point, the city of Da Nang appears below in miniature, framed by blue seas and long stretches of golden sand.

Many visitors take the opportunity to capture memorable moments amid the peninsula’s striking natural scenery.

Le Khanh Duong, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, said the atmosphere on Son Tra Peninsula felt much cooler.

“It’s very refreshing here. I feel relaxed being surrounded by nature, riding along the scenic roads and looking out over the city from above,” he said.

At several rest stops along the route, visitors could be seen bringing chairs and sitting in small groups, chatting while enjoying cold drinks and the gentle breeze.

Many international tourists visiting Da Nang also choose Son Tra as a destination to explore the natural beauty of the coastal city.

With its green landscape, fresh air, and diverse scenery, the peninsula is often described as the city’s 'green lung' and offers a welcome escape from the summer heat, providing visitors with a relaxing experience close to nature.

However, visitors are advised to help protect the ecosystem and ensure their personal safety.

Several troops of monkeys live naturally on the peninsula and are often seen along the roads or near rest areas, and tourists are advised not to feed them.
