The metro project has been proposed by Sovico Group under a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement using a build-transfer (BT) contract.
According to documents made public for the consultation, the line would start at Dong Thanh Depot in Dong Thanh Commune and end at Hiep Phuoc Depot in Hiep Phuoc Commune.
The 45-kilometer route is designed as a double-track, electrified railway with a standard gauge of 1,435 millimeters.
It would have a maximum design speed of 120 kilometers per hour on elevated sections and 90 kilometers per hour on underground sections.
The proposed line would have 31 stations, including 15 underground stations and 16 elevated stations, as well as two depots.
The Dong Thanh Depot would cover about 23.4 hectares, while the Hiep Phuoc Depot would cover about 17.2 hectares.
The project would also include trains and mechanical and electrical systems, telecommunications, signaling, train control and automated fare collection systems.
Metro Line 4 is designed to provide high-capacity passenger transport along a north-south corridor, connecting the northwestern gateway of the city with Tan Son Nhat International Airport, downtown Ben Thanh area and the Hiep Phuoc port urban area in the south.
The line would also connect with other metro lines in Ho Chi Minh City's urban railway network, allowing passengers to transfer between routes.
The project is also expected to facilitate transit-oriented development (TOD) around stations, with commercial and service facilities, offices, educational and healthcare facilities, public spaces and other urban amenities developed within walking distance of the stations.
