The storm, the fifth to enter the East Vietnam Sea this year, weakened into a tropical depression after making landfall on Monday but it caused extensive damage in the province, including to homes, infrastructure, schools, and agricultural areas.

Local officials said 5,149 houses were damaged or lost roofs, 776 were flooded, and 892 households were evacuated.

Damage was also reported at 113 schools and 13 healthcare facilities.

The storm affected more than 52,000 hectares of agricultural and forestry land, while ravaging 1,000 hectares of aquaculture farms.

Around 2.2km of roads, seven bridges were affected, and 1,885 electricity poles were knocked down.

Fourteen government buildings sustained damage.

Nguyen Duc Trung, the provincial Party secretary, said that the response was timely and that early evacuations and communication efforts had helped prevent loss of life.

Authorities said they are focusing on recovery, including repairs to homes, schools, medical facilities, roads, and power infrastructure.
