A two-kilometer street in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City is filled with hundreds of big and small potholes, posing difficulties for commuters and a high risk of traffic accidents.

Lo Lu Street in Truong Thanh Ward, Thu Duc City is seriously degraded and lined with countless potholes, some of which measure up to a meter wide, according to the observation of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters.

This route is a nightmare for local residents as it can be extremely dusty on a sunny day and flooded during rainy weather.

In addition, the street is usually congested during rush hours.

The potholes are oftentimes filled with water even when it is not raining.

Lo Lu Street has been damaged for quite a long time, but the situation has been exacerbated after an increasing number of tractor-trailers traveled on this road in the past two months, said Huyen Linh, a local resident.

“People, especially the elderly, fall off their motorbikes and bicycles due to the potholes on a daily basis,” Linh continued.

“I myself tripped and fell a few times while walking on this street.”

Linh also blamed the damaged road for a drop in customers to her family-run business.

“We tried to fill the potholes every once in a while but things were back to how they were a few days later,” Linh said.

The resident expressed her hope that local authorities will soon renovate the street.

In July, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport requested authorities in Thu Duc City to examine and fix the road, but the problem has not been solved.
