The incident occurred at around 6:30 am at Tay Nguyen Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Thanh Nhat Ward, Dak Lak Province.
According to officials, the truck, driven by a 40-year-old man from Lam Dong Province, entered the school to collect waste when it hit the student, identified as T.M.T., who lived in Ia Rve Commune.
The student was seriously injured and taken to a hospital by teachers and classmates but died shortly after.
Police in Thanh Nhat Ward responded to the scene and are coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the accident, said Nguyen Dinh Tam, chairman of the Thanh Nhat Ward People's Committee.
