Tan Son Nhat Airport opens new exit linking international and domestic terminals

The airport in Ho Chi Minh City is adjusting its internal traffic flow by allowing more vehicles leaving the international terminal to continue toward Terminal T1 instead of funneling them onto Truong Son Street.

Previously, vehicles entering Terminal T2 from Bach Dang and Truong Son streets and then leaving the airport were largely directed toward the international terminal toll station before exiting onto Truong Son Street.

The arrangement frequently caused congestion during peak hours, particularly along internal airport roads and near the exit toward Truong Son Street.

A no-straight-ahead sign at the connection between Terminals T2 and T1 had prevented most vehicles from using the link to the domestic terminal.

The connecting road, about four meters wide, was also limited to one lane and mainly used by airport vehicles and public transport.

When large volumes of vehicles pour onto Truong Son Street during peak hours, congestion could spread to nearby intersections and trigger a knock-on effect along the route.

Under the new traffic plan, the restriction has been removed, allowing vehicles from the international terminal to proceed directly toward Terminal T1.

The connection is also being widened from one to two lanes, while road markings, traffic signs, and delineator posts are being rearranged to guide vehicles and reduce conflicts with traffic entering Terminal T1 from Truong Son Street.

The change is expected to ease pressure on Truong Son Street, where vehicles heading from the international terminal toward Hong Ha Street and Pham Van Dong Boulevard previously had to exit the airport before making a U-turn near Huynh Lan Khanh Street.

Airport staff will also direct drivers waiting to pick up international passengers to less crowded areas on the left side of Terminal T2 instead of gathering near the arrivals exit.

The new traffic arrangement has become more feasible since Terminal T1 now mainly serves Vietjet, while most other domestic airlines have moved their operations to Terminal T3 since 2025.
