Teenagers killed as motorbike crashes into passenger bus in Vietnam

Three teenagers were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a passenger bus in Vietnam’s Central Highlands on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred in Ia Blang Commune, Chu Se District, Gia Lai Province at around 8:25 pm, according to Le Van Hanh, deputy head of the provincial committee for traffic safety.

A passenger bus of Thuan Tien Gia Lai Bus Line, driven by Le Minh Thanh, was traveling on the Ho Chi Minh Highway when it collided with a motorbike traveling in the opposite direction.

Three people on the motorcycle were killed on the spot.

The victims, including two girls and a boy, were later identified as Roma Oai, Siu Yen, and Ralan Thuan, all of whom were 17 years old.

The three teenagers were members of an ethnic minority in the province, a local official said.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the serious accident.

Carrying two people, not including the driver, on a motorbike is in violation of Vietnam’s road traffic law and punishable by a fine of VND100,000-200,000 (US$4.32-8.65), according to a government decree.
