Three teenagers in Dak Lak Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, are facing jail terms for stoning a passenger bus.
The People’s Procuracy in Ea H’Leo District has issued the indictment for three local teenagers regarding their offense.
Nguyen Tan Vu, Do Quang Truong, and Le Tan Dung, all 17, were charged with attempted property damage, facing punishment from non-custodial reform to six months to three years in jail.
According to the indictment, Vu, Quang, and Truong stoned passengers along National Highway 14 on July 21.
At around 7:45 pm, a sleeper bus of Tan Nien Company fell victim to the stone attack, resulted in two broken window glasses.
The damage cost an estimated VND12 million (US$528.7).
No passenger was harmed by the act.
The three were then apprehended by local police officers.
It is not uncommon for passenger buses to be attacked with stones in Vietnam.
In late September, police in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan arrested a group of young men, aged from 15 to 22, for throwing rocks at a sleeper bus on National Highway 1A, injuring two passengers.
In May, three teenagers between 13 and 15 years old in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak, were nabbed for a similar crime.
