Thailand recalls popular Hong Thai herbal inhalers after contamination, raising concerns for Vietnamese consumers

Thai Herbal Hong Thai Ltd. has recalled 200,000 units of its ‘Hong Thai Herbal Inhaler Formula 2’ after Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found microbial contamination in one production lot, prompting concern among consumers in Vietnam, where the product is widely sold online.

The affected batch, Lot No. 000332, was manufactured on December 9, 2024 and exceeded Thailand’s FDA microbial safety limits, the company said in a statement.

Other batches remain unaffected.

According to The Nation, the Thai FDA has not disclosed the specific bacteria or potential health risks.

The company plans to destroy the contaminated products under FDA supervision on November 4 and has offered refunds or replacements to affected customers.

Hong Thai Herbal announced that it would tighten its safety procedures, including adding ultraviolet sterilization during production.

In Vietnam, the inhalers are popular on e-commerce platforms, with some sellers reporting high sales.

Following the recall, several online listings have been taken down or hidden to prevent further sales.

Health experts advise consumers who purchased the product to check the batch number and discontinue use if it matches the recalled lot.
