Thailand targets Vietnamese travelers with tailored promotions

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is placing strong emphasis on promoting short-haul markets, with Vietnam identified as one of the key focus countries, according to Patsee Peẻmvongsenee, executive director for Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South Pacific at TAT.

In 2024, Thailand welcomed 984,200 Vietnamese tourists, making Vietnam the 11th-largest international source market and accounting for about 2.77 percent of all international arrivals to Thailand.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2025 held from June 4 to 6 in Chiang Mai, Permvongsenee said that this summer’s strategy includes attracting Vietnamese tourists to Thailand through partnerships with travel agencies, online travel agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders, with the goal of catering to the specific needs of each traveler segment.

Targeted tourist groups include leisure travelers, sports enthusiasts, health and wellness seekers, families, and environmentally conscious visitors.

TAT is offering a variety of special promotions such as discounts, shopping vouchers, gift cards, and souvenirs.

For the Vietnamese market, TAT has adjusted its collaboration plans with local partners to ensure that Vietnamese tourists have access to diverse, high-quality products and services.

The growing trend of outbound travel among Vietnamese means that an increasing number of travelers are willing and able to explore the world.

As such, TAT aims to offer personalized, fresh, and unique experiences on every visit to ensure that Vietnam’s travelers see Thailand as a second home—a place where each return offers something new and exciting.

This includes efforts to attract high-quality Vietnamese tourists, aligned with a focus on quality and sustainable tourism development.

TAT recommended several experiences and festivals in Thailand for Vietnamese tourists, including Songkran Festival (Thai New Year or water festival), which extends beyond the traditional three days with numerous activities throughout April; Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai in November; and Loy Krathong (floating lantern festival) held in Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, also in November.

Seasonal nature destinations such as wild sunflower hills in Mae Hong Son and cherry blossom valleys in Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, and Loei; as well as major international music and sports events including EDC Festival, Wonderfruit, Big Mountain, and the MotoGP international race were also introduced.

Vietnamese tourists can support their athletes at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, scheduled for December 9–20 in Bangkok, Chonburi (Pattaya), and Songkhla (Hat Yai).

December will also feature exciting events such as the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok and the Vijit Chao Phraya 2025 light art festival.
