Three children drown in reservoir in Vietnam’s Central Highlands

The reservoir is over two meters deep and used to supply water to a local coffee plantation

Three children drowned after accidentally falling into a reservoir in Vietnam’s Central Highlands on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred at a water reservoir used to supply water to a coffee plantation in Dai Lao Commune, Bao Loc City, Lam Dong Province, authorities confirmed.

The victims were found and brought out of the water about 20 minutes later, but they had already passed away.

They were identified as Pham Dinh Chien, 8, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, 10, and Nguyen Hieu Bao – Ngan’s seven-year-old brother.

The reservoir is more than two meters deep and has no fences, the People’s Committee in Dai Lao Commune said, adding that it belongs to a local man named Le Thanh Toan.

Local authorities have pumped water out of the reservoir to ensure safety for residents.
