Just two years ago, the Thu Thiem riverside section across from Bach Dang Wharf and stretching from the Ba Son Bridge to the entrance of the Thu Thiem Tunnel was a narrow dirt path flanked by deteriorating structures.
The Ong Cay Bridge, which crossed a small canal, had also fallen into disrepair and was closed off due to safety concerns.
Today, the transformation is visible from across the river in District 1.
The area once covered in wild grass and reeds is now adorned with flowers, ornamental landscaping, clean walking paths, and green lawns winding around plots of land as part of the new urban development.

Infrastructure improvements such as lighting, seating, pedestrian walkways, signage, and greenery have been added, making the area a popular gathering and photo spot for young people, especially in late afternoons.
“In the past, walking here meant dealing with clouds of dust and potholes—sometimes you’d even trip,” said Nhu Nguyet from Thu Duc City, while taking a stroll with her child over the weekend.
"Now it’s clean, bright, and flowers bloom along the walkway.”

The riverside walkway is lined with trees, decorative landscaping, and seasonal flowers soon to be in full bloom in Ho Chi Minh City.
A major highlight of the transformation is the Thu Thiem cultural and creative center.
With its modern, open architectural style, the center has become a venue for cultural events, exhibitions, and small-scale artistic performances that embody youthful creativity.
The surrounding area is designed to be a flexible public space, including a riverside square and open-air stage.
From this spot, visitors enjoy sweeping views of District 1’s skyline, featuring high-rise buildings, luxury hotels, and iconic urban landmarks.
