Toppled tree cuts power on downtown street in Da Nang

Some locals recalled that at around 8:45 pm, they heard a loud explosion-like sound, after which the entire area was plunged into darkness.

When residents went outside to check, they discovered that a large tree along the street had been uprooted, falling toward two houses on the opposite side of the street.

Tran Nhat, the owner of a house at 298 Phan Chau Trinh Street, said five people were sleeping inside when the incident occurred.

“When we heard a loud bang, we woke up and opened the door to see what had happened," he said.

“A huge tree had fallen right in front of our house, which was very frightening. 

"My family temporarily evacuated outside to ensure our safety."

Nhat shared that his family had previously raised concerns with local authorities about the large old tree across from their home, requesting that it be trimmed because its massive trunk had been leaning toward his house and neighboring residences.

Another nearby resident said the tree had stood there for many years and had a wide canopy.

Fortunately, the incident did not cause any injuries.

The uprooted tree measured more than 10 meters in height.

When the tree fell, its crown stretched across the street, landing in front of residential homes and collapsing onto power lines, causing a power outage along a section of Phan Chau Trinh Street.

The incident also disrupted traffic in the area.

Authorities quickly set up barricades at both ends of the street to ensure safety while crews worked to cut and remove the fallen tree.

Electricity workers also arrived to repair the damaged power lines and restore electricity to the affected neighborhood as soon as possible.
