After three decades on Vietnamese roads, the Toyota Corolla Altis has officially been discontinued in Vietnam, closing a significant chapter in the country’s automotive history.

According to the May sales report, the C-segment sedan recorded no sales, while multiple dealerships confirmed they had stopped accepting new orders.

Sources from Toyota Vietnam said that the model was no longer included in the official product line-up.

The Japanese automaker also has no plans to bring a new version or a next-generation model of this vehicle back to the market in the near future.

Local dealers attributed the decision to a sustained decline in demand as Vietnamese consumers increasingly shift toward SUVs, CUVs, and MPVs.

In recent years, Toyota has redirected its strategic focus toward higher-growth models such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, Toyota Yaris Cross, Toyota Veloz Cross, and Toyota Avanza Premio, all of which have gained stronger traction in the Vietnamese market.

The withdrawal of the Toyota Corolla Altis marks the end of one of the most influential models in the development of Vietnam’s automotive market.

Making its debut in Vietnam in 1996, the Corolla Altis was among the early locally assembled vehicles that helped shape the country’s emerging auto industry.

Its presence contributed to the formation of the C-segment sedan market, paving the way for competitors such as Ford Laser, Ford Focus, Mazda3, Kia K3, and Daewoo Lacetti.

Between 2015 and 2018, the Altis experienced its most stable period, consistently achieving annual sales of some 3,000-5,000 units.

However, from 2019 onward, the rapid rise of urban SUVs and compact crossovers fundamentally reshaped the market, steadily eroding the position of traditional sedans.

At the VND600-800 million (US$22,825-30,430) price range, consumers increasingly favor high-riding vehicles offering more flexible cabin space, modern styling, and improved road visibility.

This shift impacted not only the Corolla Altis but the entire C-segment sedan category.

In 2025, the Corolla Altis recorded just 285 units sold in Vietnam, averaging around 24 cars per month.

This figure accounted for only about 0.4 percent of Toyota Vietnam’s total sales volume and placed the model among the weakest performers in its segment.

The final version sold in Vietnam belonged to the 12th generation, introduced in 2022.

Notably, this generation marked a transition from local assembly to completely built-up imports from Thailand.

Despite its exit from Vietnam, the Corolla Altis remains one of the most successful nameplates in global automotive history.

First launched in 1966, the model has achieved cumulative sales of more than 50 million units worldwide, making it one of the best-selling cars of all time and a long-standing symbol of reliability and practicality.
