Toyota Vietnam announces recall of 26,000 cars due to loosened shock absorber nuts

Up to 25,971 units are subject to the recall

Toyota Vietnam announces recall of 26,000 cars due to loosened shock absorber nuts

Toyota Vietnam has informed the Vietnam Register of its plan to recall nearly 26,000 cars such as Veloz, Avanza, and Yaris Cross just a couple of weeks before the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday to tighten front shock absorber nuts.

Design issues may result in insufficient tightening torque, leading to potential loosened shock absorber nuts and abnormal noises during use.

In severe cases, the shock absorber nut could dislodge, compromising the vehicle’s stability.

The affected cars - 25,971 Veloz, Avanza, and Yaris Cross units - were produced between January 6, 2022, and August 30, 2023.

This recall follows the scandal of non-compliance with the car model certification process involving Toyota Motor’s small-car unit, Daihatsu Motor.

Despite the timing, the Vietnam Register has clarified that Toyota Vietnam’s recall is unrelated to Daihatsu.

The necessary repairs for the recalled cars will be conducted free of charge at the Toyota dealerships.

Affected customers will receive notifications from Toyota dealers inviting them to bring their vehicles in for inspection.

Depending on the inspection findings, the shock absorber nuts on the customer’s car will be tightened.

The estimated time for inspection and repair/replacement is approximately 0.5 to 2.5 hours per vehicle.
