A truck driver in Hong Linh Town, north-central Vietnam's Ha Tinh Province, has been slapped with an administrative fine of VND4 million (US$173) and stripped of his driver's license for three months for driving in the wrong direction on National Highway 1.
The violation was filmed by the camera installed in a car traveling in the right direction on National Highway 1, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huu Huong, chief of Hong Linh Town’s traffic police, said on Sunday.
Other vehicles in the same direction as the car had to steer aside to avoid traffic accidents.
The video was widely shared on social networks, triggering criticism from online citizens over the truck driver’s disregard for traffic safety laws.
From the above camera footage, Hong Linh Town police managed to identify the truck driver as N.V.T., 42, living in the town’s Bac Hong Ward.
T. is a driver for Tan Mai Linh Transport, Construction, and Trade JSC.
At the police station, T. admitted his wrongdoing for driving the truck in the prohibited direction on National Highway 1 and pledged not to repeat it.
