By September 11, 2025, nearly half of the old turf had been removed after five days of work. The turf overhaul is part of a broader renovation plan that includes major upgrades to the field’s foundation.

Tran Van Duong, a technical officer from Anh Duong Sports Construction and Trading Co. Ltd., told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the stadium will soon undergo a full replacement of its sand base, improvements to the drainage system, and installation of a new irrigation system. All materials will be newly imported from the United States.

The poor condition of the stadium's turf has long been a concern. It forced the Vietnam Football Federation to relocate the national team’s home matches for the 2024 ASEAN Cup to Viet Tri Stadium.

The last major renovation of My Dinh Stadium occurred in 2021 ahead of the 31st Southeast Asian Games, which Vietnam hosted in May 2022.

At that time, the sports complex received more than VND400 billion (US$15.1 million) in funding for repairs and for purchasing equipment for athletics and aquatic events.

However, turf renovation was excluded from that round of improvements due to tight preparation timelines for SEA Games 31, leaving the field's condition unresolved until now.
