Two Chinese arrested for alleged robbery in Da Nang

The pair grabbed US$301 worth of Vietnamese bills while the shop owner’s back was turned

Da Nang police announced on Thursday that they had taken two Chinese nationals into custody for the suspected stealing of VND7 million from a local shop owner two days earlier.

Officials said the two men visited a market stall in the city’s Son Tra District where owner D.T.N., 42, was selling mobile phones and accessories on Tuesday morning.

One of the men approached N. and asked to purchase a mobile phone charger worth VND50,000 ($2.20) and handed the owner a VND500,000 ($22) banknote.

N. pulled out a bundle of cash to offer change before being distracted and setting the money down on the counter. The man was able to grab several banknotes during her brief moment of inattention. He then quickly returned to the motorcycle where his partner was waiting.

Suspecting a problem, N. checked the bundle and found that over VND7 million ($301) was missing.
