Vietnam's Hue-Da Nang heritage train secured 10th place, while luxury service The Vietage by Anantara ranked 14th in the list released by U.S. travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

The ranking, part of the magazine's 39th annual Readers' Choice Awards, was based on 798,867 votes across travel experiences worldwide.

According to Condé Nast Traveler, the appeal of train travel lies not only in reaching a destination but also in enjoying scenic views, experiencing local culture, and making the journey itself part of the holiday.

Hue-Da Nang heritage train ranks 10th

Launched in March 2024, the Vietnam Central Heritage Connection takes travelers on a scenic three-hour journey along a roughly 100-kilometer railway linking Hue and Da Nang.

The train winds past the tranquil waters of the Tam Giang–Cau Hai lagoon system, the turquoise expanse of Lang Co Bay, and the dramatic slopes of the Hai Van Pass, offering passengers a constantly changing panorama of the region's natural beauty.

The stretch through Hai Van Pass is particularly captivating, with lush, forested mountains rising on one side, and the vast blue sea stretching out on the other.

A stop at Lang Co Station gives travelers a chance to soak in the scenery and capture memorable photographs.

Beyond its scenic appeal, the service offers cultural experiences, with two community carriages hosting traditional music and dance performances. Quiet carriages are also available for passengers to seek a more relaxing journey.

Condé Nast Traveler highlighted the train's affordable fare of approximately US$11 one way, the lowest among the 20 journeys on the list.

Combining scenic views, cultural activities, and affordable fares, the service offers travelers a leisurely alternative to road travel between two of central Vietnam's most popular destinations.

The Vietage by Anantara takes 14th place

For travelers seeking a more luxurious experience, The Vietage by Anantara offers an elegant way to explore Vietnam's south-central coast, connecting Da Nang, Quy Nhon, and Nha Trang.

The service caters to travelers seeking an exclusive rail experience featuring fine dining, elegant interiors, and panoramic countryside views.

On the six-hour Da Nang-Quy Nhon journey, passengers enjoy a three-course meal inspired by Vietnamese and French cuisine.

The Quy Nhon-Nha Trang route, meanwhile, features an afternoon tea service showcasing Vietnamese products, including caviar, locally produced cheese, and premium tea.

According to Condé Nast Traveler, the luxury carriage features six private booths accommodating up to 12 passengers.

Its interiors combine light-colored wood, woven rattan, and a marble bar, while large windows offer views of rice fields, coastal landscapes, and mountains along the route.

The inclusion of both services highlights Vietnam's growing appeal as a rail tourism destination, with options ranging from affordable cultural journeys to luxury travel experiences.

The recognition of two Vietnamese train journeys underscores the potential for developing rail tourism in central Vietnam, where natural landscapes and cultural heritage offer visitors experiences beyond conventional transportation.

Condé Nast Traveler is a U.S. travel magazine owned by media company Condé Nast, specializing in travel destinations, hotels, resorts, and travel experiences. Its rankings serve as a useful reference for travelers when choosing destinations and accommodation.

Europe's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express topped the 2026 ranking. The iconic luxury train is renowned for its scenic journeys through the French countryside and Swiss mountains, as well as its elegant, classic interiors.
