Unilever says Knorr in VN unfazed by Europe recall

The Knorr soup mixes being marketed in Vietnam have nothing to do with the batches of products that have been recalled in England and Germany, Unilever Vietnam, the product’s manufacturer, confirmed Saturday.

The Knorr mixes have different recipes based on the cuisine tastes of the nations they are sold in, so those in England and Germany are made from different ingredients from the Vietnamese products, the company said.

On June 9, Germany opened a recall campaign on three seasonings of Knorr mixes on the market: Greek pasta casserole, Bologna meatballs, and Tuscany slices.

The products, whose expiry date is in November 2013, were found to potentially contain small plastic parts.

Unilever Germany said it has yet to figure out why the plastic parts are included in the mixes.

The UK is also recalling similar products imported from the Philippines, according to the Food Standards Agency’s website.

Unilever Vietnam said all Knorr products in Vietnam are safe to consume as they have passed safety and hygiene standards by the Ministry of Health.

Knorr mixes, advertised as being made from meat and broth, are common food seasoning in Vietnam and are widely sold across the country.
