US provides $700k to restore royal temple in Vietnam

The U.S. Department of State on Wednesday supplied a US$700,000 funding package to a project to restore a royal temple in central Vietnam.

Trieu To Temple, part of the Hue Royal Palace in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, will be preserved and restored under a project worth VND16 billion ($759,236).

The U.S. Department of State presented local authorities with VND14.7 billion ($700,000) yesterday, with the rest covered by the province.

Earlier this year, the department also channeled almost $30,000 into the restoration of three altars placed inside the temple.

Built in 1804 during the reign of the Nguyen Dynasty’s first king, Trieu To Temple is where the king’s ancestry is currently worshipped.

Five major worshipping rituals are held annually at the place.

Rich in unique architectural features of the dynasty which was the last in Vietnam, the temple has sustained serious damage over the course of time.
